01What do the numbers and letters in 16C2 mean?
16 is the cup diameter, C is the cup depth, 2 is the rim contour. Higher diameter numbers are wider: the 13 is 16.89mm, the 20 is 17.78mm.
02Will the 16C2 help my high notes?
No. The C cup is built for volume of tone. Schilke's upper-register pieces are the shallow A cups with tight a-backbores, like the 14A4a and 13A4a.
03Standard or Heavyweight — which should I get?
Dimensions are the same either way, so it comes down to blank weight and about $50. Start with the Standard unless you already know you want the heavier piece.
04Is this a step up from a student mouthpiece?
It's wider than the 13, which is the student and developing-player size, and the C cup gives more tone volume. Expect an adjustment period on the wider diameter.
