01Is the Schilke 24 a lead mouthpiece?
Yes. Shallow A cup, 27 throat and tight a-backbore all push the upper register. The unusually wide .675 rim just makes it a lead piece for players who dislike small diameters.
02What does the 'A' in the cup designation mean?
A is Schilke's shallow cup. Less cup volume means easier high notes and a brighter, more cutting sound than the standard B or C cups.
03Will this work on my cornet?
No. This is the trumpet mouthpiece — the shank taper differs. Schilke makes a separate cornet line.
04Silver or gold plating — does it change the sound?
The difference is in feel, not tone. Silver sits a touch firmer and grippier on the lip; gold feels slicker and suits players with silver sensitivity.
