01Small shank or large shank — which do I need?
Match the horn. Student and small bore tenors take small shank; large bore tenors and bass trombones take large. This one is small shank only.
02How is the 46 different from the 45?
The 46 is slightly larger in cup diameter. Both are aimed at beginners; the 46 gives a bit more room as the embouchure develops.
03Will this work on a baritone or euphonium?
Some small bore baritones take a small shank trombone piece, but the 46D is the size Schilke points euphonium and baritone players toward.
04Is silver or gold plating better?
Silver is the standard and wears well. Gold is chosen mostly for feel or for players who react to nickel in the plating.
