01Is the Schilke 27 good for a beginner?
No. The narrow diameter and thin rim reward a developed embouchure. The 29 or 30 are the more adaptable starting sizes in this series.
02How is the 27 different from the 30 Farkas model?
The 30 is the original Farkas: wide rounded rim, fairly deep cup, good all-around. The 27 is narrower with a thin rim, aimed specifically at first horn.
03Which Schilke should I use on a descant horn?
The 28. It's the true French model with a small cup and small throat that favors the high register, and Schilke recommends it for descant.
04Will the narrow cup hurt my low range?
It costs you room down low. At .640 inch this is built around the upper register; if you play low horn, the 31 or 32 have far more cup.
