01What makes a cornet mouthpiece different from a trumpet one?
The cup shape and the shank. Cornet pieces use a deeper funnel taper into the throat for a rounder, smoother tone, and the shank is sized for a cornet receiver.
02Is .640 inches too small for me?
It's at the small end of Schilke's Group I. Good if you have a compact embouchure or thinner lips. If you're on a .665" or larger, this will feel tight.
03How does the 8A4 compare to the 8E2?
Both are small-diameter. The 8E2 has a deep funnel cup for a smooth, flexible tone across registers; the 8A4 uses a semi-flat #4 rim and shallower entry for endurance.
04Will this work on a flugelhorn?
No. Flugelhorns need their own mouthpiece with a deeper cup and a different shank taper. A cornet piece won't seat correctly.
