01What is the difference between the 10A4a and the 10A4?
Same .647-inch shallow A cup. The 10A4a has a tight a-backbore for added resistance and upper register support; the 10A4 uses a standard c-backbore that offers less resistance.
02Is this a good beginner mouthpiece?
Not really. Shallow cups reward a developed embouchure. A developing player is usually better on a fuller C cup such as the 13, then moving here when range demands it.
03Can I use it on a trumpet?
No — cornet receivers take a different shank. Schilke lists the same 10A4a cup profile in its trumpet models, so you can get an equivalent feel on trumpet.
04Will the shallow cup hurt my low register?
Somewhat. Less cup volume trims body and depth at the bottom while making the top easier to reach. That trade is the whole point of an A cup.
