Strong match

Who this is for

  • Lead trumpet in a big band, cutting over the section
  • Commercial and jazz gigs needing projection against an amplified backline
  • Players who want the high register to speak more easily

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Orchestral work wanting dark, broad tone — the 4 or 1 fits better
  • Beginners; the 4B in this series is the easy-blowing starter
  • Warm ballad playing at low volume

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

16.75mm cup diameter

Mid-size rim for this line — smaller than the 1 and 2W, same diameter as the 3C.

Detail 02

3.80mm throat

Slightly wider than the 3.70mm models in the series, so a bit more air moves before the sound compresses.

Detail 03

Barrel backbore

Holds the sound centered rather than spreading it, unlike the V-type backbore on the 4E and 5E.

Detail 04

5.05mm rim width

Narrow rim. More flexibility and slotting feel, less cushion across a long set.

Detail 05

3E versus 3C

Same cup diameter, near-identical rim. The E is bright and projecting; the C blows freer and sounds warmer.

Detail 06

Silver plating

Firm, cool feel against the lip. It tarnishes, so wipe it down rather than letting residue build.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Mouthpiece only — no trumpet, pouch or cleaning brush included
  2. 02Allow a week or two before your range settles on a new rim
  3. 03A bright lead piece won't cover orchestral work; keep a second mouthpiece

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Is the 3E good for a beginner?

No. It rewards a developed embouchure and steady air. In this same series the 4B is the beginner piece — warm tone, plays very easily.

02How does the 3E compare to the 3C?

Identical 16.75mm cup and near-identical rim. The 3E is brighter and crisper with more projection. The 3C is free-blowing with a warm sound and easier response.

03Will it help my high notes?

It is built for the upper register and makes high playing easier to project. It sharpens what you already have; it does not replace range practice.

04Does it fit any trumpet?

It is a trumpet mouthpiece and takes a trumpet receiver. Cornet and flugelhorn use different shanks and will not accept it.
