Strong match

Who this is for

  • Low-wattage combos and practice amps at 20W or under
  • Multi-speaker cabs that split a larger amp's output
  • Cabs where the lightest 12 available helps

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Any amp pushing more than 20W into a single speaker
  • Mixing with 100dB speakers in the same cab
  • Bass, keyboard or full-range use

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

20W power rating

The lowest rating of the three by a wide margin. Overpower it and you will damage it, not just distort it.

Detail 02

96dB sensitivity

About 4dB quieter per watt than the Gold or Vintage 30. Noticeably lower volume at the same amp setting.

Detail 03

35oz ceramic magnet

Smaller magnet than the Vintage 30's 50oz. Part of why it is lighter and handles less power.

Detail 04

5.1 inch overall depth

Shallowest of the three. The easiest fit in tight combo cabinets.

Detail 05

7.9 lb weight

Lightest 12 here. Meaningful if you are loading four into a cab you have to move.

Detail 06

8 ohm nominal impedance

Four in a series-parallel 4x12 gives 8 ohms total and 80W handling. Check your amp's tap.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 0120W rating is easy to exceed. Confirm your amp's output before installing this in a 1x12.
  2. 02Speaker only. No hardware, gasket, wire or connectors included.
  3. 03Needs an 11.1 inch cutout with four slots on an 11.7 inch pattern.

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Can I put this in my 50W amp?

Not as a single speaker. It is rated 20W. In a 4x12 the load divides across four drivers, which keeps each one inside its rating.

02Why is it quieter than other Celestion 12s?

Sensitivity is 96dB versus 100dB on the Gold and Vintage 30. That is a real 4dB difference in output for the same power in.

03Can I mix it with other speakers in one cab?

You can, but the 4dB sensitivity gap means it will sit quieter than a 100dB speaker beside it, and the 20W rating still limits it.

04Is this the 8 ohm version?

Yes, 8 ohm nominal with 6.57 ohms DC resistance. Celestion also makes a 15 ohm variant, sold separately.
