Strong match

Who this is for

  • Mobile DJ rigs where the console sits far from the lights
  • Feeding a stage rig from a front-of-house position
  • Permanent installs needing one long, clean control run

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Fixtures with 5-pin DMX inputs, without an adapter
  • Plenum ceiling spaces, where PVC jackets aren't permitted
  • Short booth-to-fixture hops where 100 feet is clutter

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

110-ohm impedance

Matched to what DMX expects. Audio cable isn't impedance-matched for data and causes flicker and dropouts on long runs.

Detail 02

22 AWG, 19-strand copper

Stranded conductors survive repeated coiling and uncoiling. Solid-core wire work-hardens and eventually breaks at the connector.

Detail 03

Foil plus 85% braid shield

Two shield layers against dimmer packs and LED drivers, which are the usual sources of noise on a lighting run.

Detail 04

PVC outer jacket

Tough and abrasion-resistant for floor runs, but not plenum-rated, so it stays out of air-handling ceiling voids.

Detail 05

3.2-inch minimum bend radius

Don't fold it tight around corners or truss legs. Sharp kinks deform the geometry that keeps the impedance correct.

Detail 06

0.229 inch diameter, 31 lbs per 1000 ft

About three pounds for this length and slim enough to sit under standard cable ramps without a bulge.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 013-pin ends won't mate with 5-pin fixtures unless you add an adapter
  2. 02A DMX terminator for the last fixture is a separate purchase
  3. 03Rated to 72 lbs pull tension — don't haul it through a truss run

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Is this the same as a 100 ft XLR mic cable?

The connectors look identical, but this is 110-ohm data cable. Use it for DMX and keep a real mic cable for audio.

02Will 100 feet cause signal problems?

Not on its own. Impedance-matched conductors and dual shielding are exactly what keeps a run this long stable.

03Can I run it outdoors?

The cable handles -30 to 75 degrees C, so cold and heat near fixtures are fine. Keep the connector ends dry and off wet ground.

04Will it work with any 3-pin fixture?

Yes, any fixture with a standard 3-pin DMX in and out. Daisy-chain from one fixture to the next as usual.
