Independent shopping perspective

The Korena take

Ligature for alto sax mouthpieces. Holds the reed to the mouthpiece. A replacement part for a lost or bent ligature, not an upgrade.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • Replacing a ligature lost at school or on a gig
  • Student players who bent the original past straightening

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Players chasing a tone change from ligature material
  • Tenor, soprano or bari sax — alto sizing only
  • Anyone with an oversized or aftermarket mouthpiece body

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Alto saxophone size

Sized to the diameter of a standard alto mouthpiece. Tenor and soprano mouthpieces will not seat correctly.

Detail 02

Ligature, not a mouthpiece

This is only the band and screws that clamp the reed. You still need your own mouthpiece and reeds.

Detail 03

Yamaha-designed fit

Cut for Yamaha alto mouthpieces. Third-party mouthpieces vary in taper, so fit is not guaranteed.

Detail 04

Under $15

Priced as a consumable replacement part. Repairs and setups often cost more than buying a new one.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Measure or compare against your current mouthpiece before ordering — taper varies by maker
  2. 02No mouthpiece, cap or reeds included
  3. 03Screws are small and easy to lose; do not over-tighten

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Will this fit my tenor sax?

No. It is cut for alto mouthpiece diameter. A tenor mouthpiece is larger and the band will not close around it.

02Does it come with a mouthpiece cap?

No. This is the ligature only.

03Will it fit a non-Yamaha mouthpiece?

It is designed around Yamaha alto mouthpieces. Many hard rubber alto pieces are close in size, but fit on other brands is not guaranteed.

04Which way does it go on?

Screws sit under the mouthpiece, away from your lip, with the reed centered on the table. Tighten just enough to stop the reed sliding.
