01Is the S80 D good for jazz?
It is not built for it. The square chamber and close tip give a centered, contained sound. Jazz players usually want a more open tip and a brighter chamber.
02What reed strength should I use with a D facing?
Most players land around 3 to 3.5. The close tip opening wants a harder reed; a soft reed will close off and sound stuffy.
03Will my current ligature fit?
Not guaranteed. Ligature fit depends on the mouthpiece body shape, and this differs from most stock soprano mouthpieces. Try it before assuming it seats properly.
04Is C* or D more open?
D is the more open of the two. C* is closer, which makes it easier to control but gives up some volume and flexibility.
