What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Plasticover coating

Sealed cane. Absorbs far less moisture, so response stays steady across a long rehearsal and in humidity swings.

Detail 02

Strength 1.5

Very soft. Almost no resistance, so notes speak immediately, but the sound gets bright and can close up when pushed.

Detail 03

Alto cut

Fits alto mouthpieces only. Won't seal correctly on tenor, soprano or clarinet.

Detail 04

Coated surface

Brighter, edgier voice than plain cane, and it holds up longer before it goes soft.

Detail 05

Box of 5

Coating evens out cane variation somewhat, so reeds in a box play closer to each other than uncoated ones.

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01What does Plasticover actually mean?

The cane reed is sealed in a thin plastic coating. It keeps moisture out, so the reed plays the same wet or dry and lasts longer than bare cane.

02Is 1.5 too soft for me?

If you're past the beginner stage, likely yes. At 1.5 the sound thins and the reed closes off when you play loud. Most alto players settle at 2.5 or 3.

03Do these fit tenor sax?

No. These are cut for alto. A tenor mouthpiece is wider and the reed won't cover the table properly.

04Do coated reeds need to be soaked?

No. The coating blocks water, so a few seconds of wetting is enough. Wipe it off and store it flat after playing.
