Strong match

Who this is for

  • Tracking lead vocals with color and light level control
  • DI'ing bass or guitar through the 1M ohm instrument input
  • Adding an analog front end to an interface-based setup

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Stereo sources or drum buses — one channel only
  • Aggressive pumping compression; the ratio stops at 2:1
  • Anyone wanting digital output straight into a DAW

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Compressor ratio 1:1 to 2:1

Gentle level smoothing only. It rides a vocal, it will not clamp peaks or act as a limiter.

Detail 02

Mic gain up to +66dB, EIN -126dB

Enough clean gain for quiet ribbon and dynamic mics without the hiss cheaper preamps add at high settings.

Detail 03

1M ohm instrument input

High enough impedance that passive guitar and bass pickups keep their top end plugged straight in.

Detail 04

Variable Q, 0.7 to 2.5, on all three bands

You can go broad and tonal or narrow enough to notch out a resonance, on the same band.

Detail 05

Analog VU meter, switchable

Shows either gain reduction or output level, not both. You watch one thing at a time.

Detail 06

+22dBu headroom, XLR and 1/4-inch TRS outputs

Drives any interface line input hot without clipping, balanced either way over long cable runs.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Powered by an external 16VAC supply, not a standard IEC cable — keep track of it
  2. 02Outputs are analog only, so you still need an interface or converter
  3. 03One rack space, 5.5 inches deep, so shallow racks and bags work

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Can I record two mics at once with this?

No. It is a single-channel unit. Two vocals or a stereo pair means buying a second one and matching the settings by ear.

02Will it work with a condenser mic?

Yes, phantom power is switchable at +48V. A -20dB pad is there too if a loud source pushes the input too hard.

03Is the compressor strong enough for tracking vocals?

For light control, yes. The maximum ratio is 2:1, so it evens out a performance rather than squashing it. Heavier compression happens later in the DAW.

04Does the EQ cover enough range to be useful?

Low reaches 40Hz to 500Hz, mid 200Hz to 3kHz, high 2kHz to 20kHz, each up to 13dB either way. The bands overlap, so most corrections are reachable.
