The body cutaway provides access to the upper frets.

Independent shopping perspective
Gibson Custom’s Songwriter EC Custom combines solid rosewood back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top in the Songwriter EC body. The cutaway is there for access to the upper frets, alongside a round-profile mahogany neck and bound ebony fingerboard. L.R. Baggs Session VTC electronics make it ready for amplified use, while its Ebony nitrocellulose finish, multi-ply binding, mother-of-pearl Custom Block inlays and gold Grover Rotomatic tuners establish the Custom treatment. A hardshell case is included.
