Both share the 32.5mm cup and 8.43mm throat. The 1XL adds a wider, more rounded rim for comfort, so the playing feel differs more than the sound.
03Is this good for a high school student?
Generally no. The wide cup needs a strong embouchure. The 4 or 4L, at 30.5mm, is aimed at younger players and gives projection with less effort.
04Can I use this on an F tuba?
It is built for large tubas. F tuba players are better served by the smaller 3XL or 3SL, which are specified for F horns.
