Strong match

Who this is for

  • Experienced players on large tubas needing maximum output
  • Small-shank horns that still need a big sound
  • Low, loud section work under a full ensemble

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Students — a 32.5mm cup tires chops fast
  • Large-shank receivers; this is a small shank
  • Players who want a wide cushioned rim

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

32.5mm cup diameter

Widest cup here. More lip vibrates, giving more volume and low end, and fatigue arrives sooner.

Detail 02

7.48mm rim width

Narrow rim puts more lip inside the cup — better flexibility, less cushion over a long rehearsal.

Detail 03

8.43mm throat

Wide bore passes a lot of air. Rewards a full air stream and thins out if you under-blow.

Detail 04

Small shank

Large cup on a small-shank taper. Confirm your receiver, since most 32.5mm mouthpieces assume otherwise.

Detail 05

1 versus 1XL

Same 32.5mm cup and 8.43mm throat. The XL adds a wider, rounded rim if comfort is the issue.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Mouthpiece only; no pouch, brush or cleaning kit included
  2. 02Confirm your receiver is small shank before ordering this size
  3. 03Expect an adjustment period — large cups punish tired chops

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Is the 1 too big for me?

If you are still building endurance, likely yes. It needs a strong embouchure and a lot of air. The 3 or 4 sizes are more forgiving.

02What is the difference between the 1 and the 1XL?

Cup diameter and throat are identical at 32.5mm and 8.43mm. The 1XL uses a wider, rounded rim, which spreads pressure over more lip.

03Will it fit a large-shank tuba?

No. This is the small-shank version. A large-shank receiver needs a different mouthpiece or an adapter, which changes how the horn plays.

04Does the bigger cup guarantee a better low register?

It gives you more to work with, not automatically more sound. Without the air to fill it, a 32.5mm cup sounds weaker than a smaller one.
