Usually not. The bonded ring already handles the high overtones. Add gel only if you want an extremely dry, dead tom.
02Clear or coated for toms?

03Can I put this on the bottom of the tom?
You can, but a two-ply resonant head heavily damps the drum. Resonant sides normally use a thin single-ply head.
04How long will a two-ply head last?
Considerably longer than single-ply under hard hitting. Replace it when you see stick dents or the tone goes dull.
