01Which direction does this go?

3-pin output to 5-pin input. The male 3-pin end goes into your console or fixture's 3-pin output, and the 5-pin female accepts a 5-pin fixture's input.

02Can I use a mic cable instead?

It usually works on short hops, but mic cable is not 110-ohm. On long chains or with many fixtures you get flicker, stuck channels and hunting for the fault.

03Are pins 4 and 5 connected?

No. There is one pair inside, so only pins 1, 2 and 3 are wired. Standard DMX512 ignores 4 and 5, so this is normal for a turnaround.

04Will it work outdoors?

It is rated from -30°C to +75°C, so cold and hot truss positions are fine. Protect the connectors from rain and standing water.
