About this model
Capture the first take with the polish and character of a finished record, whether you're working at a desk or recording away from the studio. The Universal Audio Volt 1 Gen 2 2-in/2-out USB audio interface combines 32-bit/192kHz conversion with a Tone Shaping Preamp, dedicated Hi-Z instrument input and straightforward hands-on control for singer-songwriters, musicians and content creators. Three preamp character modes—Warmth, Focus and Shine—bring Tube, Solid State and British Class-A-inspired tonal options to the recording path, while 60dB of available gain accommodates a broad range of sources. Record a microphone and instrument simultaneously, monitor through speaker and headphone outputs, or use built-in loopback to combine live sources with computer audio for podcasts and streams. USB bus power and compatibility with Mac, Windows, iPad and iPhone make Volt 1 Gen 2 a compact recording system that can move wherever the session does. Three Tone Shaping Modes Add Character Before the DAW Instead of waiting until the mix to give a recording personality, the onboard Tone Shaping Preamp lets you choose a character while tracking. Warmth adds Tube-inspired color, Focus provides a Solid State-style response, and Shine brings British Class-A-inspired presence, providing three quick starting points for matching the front end to a voice or instrument. The mic/line input provides up to 60dB of gain and switchable 48V phantom power for compatible condenser microphones, while the dedicated front-panel Hi-Z input accommodates electric guitar, bass and other instruments. With both paths available at once, a performer can capture vocals and an instrument simultaneously without building a complicated recording chain. 32-Bit 192kHz Conversion Preserves Performance Detail 32-bit conversion at sample rates up to 192kHz provides high-resolution capture for detailed performances, while the analog I/O is engineered for wide dynamic range and low distortion. The mic/line path offers 119dB A-weighted dynamic range, and the instrument input provides 116dB, giving both recording paths a clean foundation before intentional tone shaping is applied. Balanced 1/4" monitor outputs deliver 122dB of dynamic range with a maximum output level of +20.2dBu, while the dedicated 1/4" headphone output provides 121dB of dynamic range for tracking and mixing. Direct hardware controls keep input gain and listening levels accessible without interrupting the creative process. Bus Power and Loopback Support Mobile Content Creation Volt 1 Gen 2 is USB bus powered, allowing compatible computers, tablets and phones to run the interface without a separate external power supply when the connected device can provide sufficient power. Class-compliant operation simplifies setup with compatible Mac, iPad and iPhone systems, while Windows support uses the ASIO driver available through UA Connect. Built-in loopback adds another layer of flexibility for podcasting, livestreaming and other content workflows by combining live microphone or instrument signals with audio playing from the computer. USB-C connectivity and support for major DAWs—including Ableton Live, FL Studio, GarageBand, Logic Pro and Pro Tools—make it easy to move between different production environments. UAD Plug-Ins and LUNA Provide a Complete Production Toolkit The included UAD Volt Studio Bundle extends the interface beyond recording with more than 15 UAD plug-ins and instruments plus Universal Audio's LUNA Digital Audio Workstation. The collection includes the UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection, Century Tube Channel Strip, Teletronix LA-2A Tube Compressor, UA 1176 Classic FET Compressor, Pure Plate Reverb, Galaxy Tape Echo, Oxide Tape Recorder, PolyMAX and Anthem synths, plus UAD guitar amps. Additional software from Celemony, Plugin Alliance, UJAM, Splice and UVI expands the package with pitch correction, bass processing, virtual drums, virtual bass and instruments, along with three months of FL Studio Producer Edition. A Streamlined Interface for Recording From First Take to Final Mix Built by the team behind Universal Audio's Apollo interfaces, the Volt 1 Gen 2 keeps the recording workflow approachable while providing the connectivity and audio performance needed for solo production. Its 2-in/2-out architecture handles solo recording efficiently, with dedicated mic/line and instrument paths, stereo monitor outputs and a headphone connection all housed in a rugged desktop design. Whether tracking vocals and guitar, producing songs, recording a podcast or streaming live content, the Universal Audio Volt 1 Gen 2 combines onboard analog-inspired tone shaping, high-resolution conversion and an extensive software collection in a portable interface designed to get from setup to recording quickly.
