Strong match

Who this is for

  • Neck position in a guitar already routed for soapbar P-90s
  • Players wanting a thicker, louder neck tone than vintage P-90s
  • Driving an amp into breakup from the neck pickup

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Players after clean, vintage-spec P-90 chime and clarity
  • Humbucker or single-coil routed guitars without a soapbar cavity
  • Anyone needing a completely hum-free pickup

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Soapbar P-90

The wide rectangular housing with no mounting ears. It only fits a soapbar route, not a dog-ear or humbucker slot.

Detail 02

P-90 single coil

One wide coil. Fatter and louder than a Strat single-coil, but more open and cutting than a humbucker, and it does hum.

Detail 03

Hot winding

More output than a vintage P-90, so the amp breaks up earlier and the tone is thicker with less top-end sparkle.

Detail 04

Neck version

Voiced for the neck slot. Bridge duty needs the bridge version, since output and balance are matched to position.

Detail 05

Black cover

Standard soapbar cover color. Match it to your bridge pickup if you want a consistent look.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Soldering required. No mounting screws, springs, or wiring harness assumed included
  2. 02Confirm your route is soapbar, not dog-ear. The mounting differs entirely
  3. 03P-90s hum by design. This one will too, especially under high gain

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Will this fit a dog-ear P-90 slot?

No. Soapbar and dog-ear P-90s mount completely differently. A soapbar sits in a recessed route with screws through the cover; a dog-ear mounts on top.

02Does a P-90 hum?

Yes. It is a single coil, so it picks up 60-cycle buzz from lights and screens. Turning the guitar can reduce it, but not eliminate it.

03Can I put this in the bridge?

It will fit a bridge soapbar route, but it is wound for the neck. In the bridge it will sound softer and less cutting than intended.

04How is this different from a standard P-90?

It is wound hotter. More output, thicker midrange, earlier amp breakup, and less of the airy top end a vintage-spec P-90 gives you.
