With high SPL handling and 48V phantom-powered operation, the VR2 provides the gain efficiency of an active microphone alongside the smooth, dimensional response associated with ribbon designs. Active Electronics Deliver More Output With Less Preamp Gain The VR2 uses the same 2-micron ribbon as its passive counterpart, then pairs it with Class-A electronics and an additional hand-crafted transformer to increase output by 7dB. That stronger signal reduces the amount of microphone preamp gain required, making the active ribbon easier to integrate across a broad range of recording systems. Its lightweight transducer responds quickly to transients while the custom transformer design maintains smooth upper-register reproduction, allowing detailed sources such as cymbals and guitar amplifiers to retain definition while preserving the natural character associated with ribbon capture.
