Star models share the rim and cup of the plain M and MD versions but use a larger Schmidt backbore with a shorter throat. The result is less resistance and a more open feel.
02How does a 24 throat compare to a 26?
Lower numbers are more open. A 24 passes noticeably more air than the 26 found on Schilke's standard trumpet pieces, and far more than a tight 27.
03Is this an orchestral mouthpiece?
It's from the Symphony M series and built around an open, low-resistance setup — the opposite approach from Schilke's shallow-cup, tight-backbore lead pieces.
