B is the chamber size, the medium of the three Graftonite chambers. 5 is the tip opening, mid-range for the line. Together they set how much air it takes and how flexible it feels.
02Will this fit my soprano saxophone?
It fits standard soprano sax necks. It will not fit alto, tenor or baritone, and it is not a clarinet piece.
03What reed strength works with a B-5?
Most players land on 2 to 2.5. The 5 tip opening is fairly open, so harder reeds get stiff quickly. Move up only after your embouchure settles.
04Is it an upgrade over my horn's stock mouthpiece?
Usually yes on consistency and tip opening, since stock student pieces tend to be closed and tight. It is still molded plastic, not a hand-finished piece.
