The specifications, translated

Rico Alto Clarinet Reeds, Box of 3 Strength 2.5 construction detail

Detail 01

Alto clarinet cut

Sized between soprano and bass clarinet reeds. Not interchangeable with either, even if it looks close.

Detail 02

Strength 2.5

Middle-soft. Speaks easily and takes less air pressure, at some cost to volume ceiling and pitch stability up top.

Detail 03

Box of 3

A rotation set. Play a different one each day and the cane recovers between sessions.

Detail 04

Cane

Organic material with piece-to-piece variation, and it warps if stored wet or in heat.

Detail 05

$16.15 for three

About $5.38 each, low enough to buy two strengths and find where you sit.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01No mouthpiece, ligature or case included
  2. 02Alto clarinet reeds are not a Bb clarinet substitute — check your horn
  3. 03Reed strength grading differs by brand; 2.5 is not universal

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01What is the difference between alto and Bb clarinet reeds?

Alto reeds are larger. The alto clarinet is a bigger instrument with a wider mouthpiece, so a soprano reed will not cover the window.

02Can I use these on a bass clarinet?

No. Bass clarinet reeds are larger again. An alto reed on a bass mouthpiece will leak at the sides.

03Should I move up from 2.5?

Move up when the sound thins out or notes close off under pressure. If you are still tiring quickly, stay at 2.5 or drop to 2.0.

04How should I store them?

Dry them after playing and keep them flat in a reed guard or the original sleeve. Loose in a case is how reeds chip and warp.
