What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

7* tip opening

Medium-large. Rewards a developed embouchure with volume and flexibility; makes soft playing and altissimo harder if you are not there yet.

Detail 02

Metal construction

Brighter, more cutting than hard rubber. The slimmer body also changes how much mouthpiece you take in.

Detail 03

Tenor-specific

Fits tenor necks only. It will not work on alto, soprano or baritone.

Detail 04

Otto Link metal tenor

A standard-line metal Link, distinct from the New York Series version, which uses a different chamber and facing.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Metal bodies are narrower than rubber; your neck cork may need adjusting
  2. 02Ligatures are not interchangeable between metal and hard rubber mouthpieces
  3. 03Expect to drop reed strength when moving up to a 7* tip

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01How is this different from the New York Series version?

They are separate designs in the Otto Link metal line, with different chamber and facing work. Play both if you can — the difference is in feel and brightness.

02Do I need a new ligature?

Most likely. Metal mouthpieces have a smaller outer diameter than hard rubber, so an existing rubber-fit ligature will not clamp correctly.

03Will it fit my neck cork?

Metal pieces are slimmer, so a cork fitted for hard rubber is often too thin. A repair tech can build the cork up.

04Is 7* a good tip opening to start with?

It is medium-large and takes real air support. Players coming from a stock 5 or 6 should expect an adjustment period.
