Independent shopping perspective

The Korena take

Hard case for dreadnought acoustics, with headstock room sized for 12-strings too. For players moving a full-size acoustic often enough that a gig bag isn't enough.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • 12-string dreadnoughts with long headstocks and wide tuner arrays
  • Standard 6-string dreadnoughts hauled to gigs weekly
  • Trunk, van and storage transport where knocks are likely

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Parlor, concert or OM bodies — they sit loose
  • Jumbos or bodies wider than 16 inches
  • Players wanting a light back-carried bag; nine pounds empty

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Gator GC-DREAD-12 Deluxe Dreadnought 6/12-String Guitar Case construction detail

Detail 01

16 in lower bout, 21.5 in body length

A standard dreadnought footprint. Smaller-bodied guitars shift inside unless you pad the gaps yourself.

Detail 02

9.5 in headstock length, 5.5 in width

The extra head room is what lets 12-string headstocks and their doubled tuner rows clear the interior.

Detail 03

9 lb empty

Heavier than any gig bag. Expect a hand carry to the car, not a walk across town.

Detail 04

45.5 x 19 x 6 in exterior

Nearly four feet long and six inches thick — measure your trunk, closet and overhead space first.

Detail 05

6.5 x 5.5 x 2 in accessory space

Holds strings, picks, capo and a clip-on tuner. A pedal or a coiled long cable won't go in.

Detail 06

13 in upper bout

The shoulder cut follows dreadnought shape, so wide-shouldered jumbo bodies won't seat properly.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Measure your guitar's lower bout and total length — dreadnought sizing varies between builders
  2. 02Interior runs 43 inches; longer instruments won't close
  3. 03No humidifier, strap, strings or hardware included

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Does a regular 6-string dreadnought fit, or is this 12-string only?

Both fit. The body cavity is dreadnought-sized either way; the added headstock room simply means a 12-string head also clears.

02Will my OM or Grand Auditorium fit?

It'll go in, but a 16-inch lower bout and 21.5-inch body length leave a smaller body loose. Pad the gaps or buy a case sized to that body.

03How heavy is it?

Nine pounds empty, before the guitar goes in.

04Can I store pedals or a tuner inside?

The accessory compartment is 6.5 x 5.5 x 2 inches. Strings, picks, a capo and a clip-on tuner fit. Pedals don't.
