Strong match

Who this is for

  • Small rack tom that rings too long in a live mix
  • Rock and pop players wanting a thick, pre-muffled thud
  • Studio kits where overtones fight the mics

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Jazz or orchestral players who need open sustain and stick nuance
  • Anyone wanting a bright, cutting attack from a small tom
  • Resonant-side replacement — this is a batter head only

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Hydraulic construction

A layer of oil sits between two plies and kills overtones on contact, so the note dies fast.

Detail 02

8 inch

Fits an 8" tom only. Head sizes are the drum's diameter, not the shell's outer edge.

Detail 03

Batter head

Goes on the top, struck side. The bottom resonant head is a separate purchase.

Detail 04

Blue film

The color is the oil layer showing through. It reads dark under stage lights rather than clear.

Detail 05

Two-ply thickness

Takes hard hitting better than a single-ply head, at the cost of stick sensitivity and volume at low dynamics.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01One head, one drum. An 8" tom is usually part of a larger set.
  2. 02You need a drum key to seat and tune it evenly.
  3. 03Expect a duller, lower pitch than the single-ply head you may be replacing.

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Do I need to muffle this with tape or gel?

No. The oil layer between plies does the muffling. Adding tape on top usually chokes the drum to the point of losing pitch.

02Can I use it on the bottom of the tom?

It's built as a batter head for the strike side. Resonant heads are thinner by design, so putting this underneath will deaden the drum heavily.

03Will it fit a 10-inch tom?

No. Drum heads are size-specific. An 8" head only fits an 8" drum.

04Is it durable for hard hitting?

Two plies give it more life than a single-ply head, which is part of why players in loud settings use it.
