Single-ply film is thinner than two-ply, so yes, it dents sooner under heavy playing. If you hit hard consistently, a two-ply head lasts longer.
03Can I use this on the bottom of a tom?
It's built as a batter for the top side. Bottom resonant heads are usually thinner film, so this won't give the same response underneath.
04How do I stop it ringing so much?
Tune the head evenly and try a slightly higher tension, or add a damping gel or muffling ring near the edge. Neither is included.
