Not advisable. Resonant film is thinner and made to vibrate, not to take stick impact. It will dent and split quickly under sticks.

Tuning the resonant head slightly higher than the batter gives a clear pitch with some downward bend. Even tension between the two gives the most sustain.
03Will this cut down tom ring on its own?
It helps. The damping ring shortens sustain from the bottom side, but a controlled batter head on top does more of that work.
