Strong match

Who this is for

  • Lectures, panels and interviews within reach of a wired input
  • Theater body mics where head turns must not change level
  • Video and broadcast work needing a capsule that hides easily

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Loud sources — headroom stops at 106 dB SPL on phantom
  • Live rigs needing pattern rejection for gain before feedback
  • Anyone who wants a replaceable cable; it's permanently attached

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Omnidirectional pickup

Level stays even as the talker turns their head. It also hears the room, so keep monitors down.

Detail 02

6 ft cable, permanently attached, TA3F end

A damaged cable means a new mic. Six feet reaches a belt-worn module, not a distant mixer.

Detail 03

Battery or 11-52V phantom

Phantom lifts max level from 92 dB to 106 dB SPL. Use it wherever anyone gets loud.

Detail 04

80 Hz roll-off, 18 dB per octave

Steep cut for HVAC rumble and chest thump when the capsule sits on the sternum.

Detail 05

72 dB signal-to-noise

Fine for normal speech at chest distance. Very soft talkers will push your preamp and reveal hiss.

Detail 06

2.5 g capsule, 20.5 mm long, 10 mm wide

Light enough to tape under clothing or hide at a hairline without dragging the fabric down.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Clothing clip, windscreen, AT8531 power module, battery and carrying case are included
  2. 02You still supply the XLR cable from the power module to your mixer
  3. 03One AA runs about 1200 hours; phantom power skips batteries entirely

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Does it need phantom power?

No. It runs on one AA in the included AT8531 module, or on 11-52V phantom. Phantom buys headroom: 106 dB SPL instead of 92 dB.

02Can I use it with a wireless bodypack?

The cable is permanently attached and ends in a TA3F connector that mates with the included power module. Check any bodypack for that connector before planning on it.

03Will it pick up other people in the room?

Yes. Omnidirectional means it takes in the whole room fairly evenly. Chest placement and low monitor levels matter more than aiming it.

04Can I replace the cable if it fails?

No. The cable is permanently attached to the capsule, so cable damage means a new microphone. Route it carefully and add strain relief at the clip.
