01Is this a Bb bass clarinet?
Yes, it is pitched in Bb, one octave below the standard soprano clarinet. It reads the same treble-clef parts a clarinetist already knows.
02Can I use my regular clarinet reeds and mouthpiece?
No. Bass clarinet takes its own larger mouthpiece and reeds. The 4C mouthpiece, ligature and cap are included; buy bass clarinet reeds separately.
03Does it go low enough for high school band?
Low Eb covers the large majority of concert band bass clarinet writing. Occasional low D or C passages have to be adapted.
04Do I need the neck strap?
Use it. The instrument is heavy and the strap takes the weight off your right thumb, which otherwise cramps within a few minutes.
