Plan on one. Piezo transducers want a high-impedance input. Straight into a low-impedance board channel it will sound thin and lose low end.
02Will this work on my electric bass?
No. It is built for the bridge of an acoustic double bass and depends on that bridge-to-top contact to work at all.
03Can I install it myself?
Yes, though it takes care. You slacken the strings, lift one bridge foot, and seat the transducer underneath. A luthier can do it in minutes.
04Is it permanent?
