The Korena take

Active bridge humbucker built for high-gain metal. For players who want a tight, mid-forward bridge tone and are willing to run a battery in the guitar.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • Down-tuned rhythm work where passive bridge pickups turn muddy
  • High-gain amps and heavy distortion pedals
  • Replacing a weak or vague stock bridge humbucker

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Clean playing that rewards a light, dynamic picking touch
  • Guitars with no room for a battery
  • Neck-position swaps — this is wound for the bridge

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Active

An onboard preamp runs off a battery. Output stays constant and noise stays low regardless of what it feeds.

Detail 02

Resonant peak at 1.2 kHz

The peak sits low, in the low mids. Attack reads thick and chunky rather than glassy or cutting.

Detail 03

EQ 7/9/5 bass/mid/treble

Mids lead, bass close behind, treble pulled back. Palm mutes stay defined without ice-pick top end.

Detail 04

Alnico V bar magnet

A strong magnet, so the low end stays firm and pick attack stays hard under heavy gain.

Detail 05

High output

Pushes the front of an amp harder. Less clean headroom, more natural compression and longer sustain.

Detail 06

3-conductor shielded cable

Extra conductors leave switching options open at the wiring stage; the shield keeps interference out of the lead.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Needs a 9V battery and somewhere inside the guitar to hold it
  2. 02Active wiring wants a stereo output jack so the battery switches off
  3. 03Sold as a single bridge pickup, not a matched set

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Can I put this in the neck position?

It's the bridge version. At the neck it would come out much darker and heavier than intended, since it's wound and voiced for the bridge spot.

02Will it fit a standard humbucker route?

It's a standard humbucker, so it drops into a normal humbucker cavity. The extra thing to plan for is where the battery lives.

03Does it clean up when I roll the volume back?

Less than a passive pickup. The preamp holds output steady, so cleans come out compressed and even rather than dynamic.

04Do I still need a boost pedal for metal?

Output is already high, so the pickup does much of what a boost does. Use one for extra midrange focus rather than more volume.
