01How is this different from the plain Schilke 20?
Very close in rim diameter — .698 versus .700 inch. The 20D2d adds a deeper D cup, a number 2 semi-round rim, and a larger d-backbore, so it plays darker and more open.
02Is this a lead mouthpiece?
No. The deep cup and large diameter are built for volume and body. For lead playing, a shallower cup in a smaller diameter is the usual choice.
03Will it make my high register harder?
Likely, at first. A large diameter with a deep cup takes more air and more embouchure strength. Players moving up in size usually lose range before regaining it.
04What does the semi-round number 2 rim feel like?
Narrower and rounder than a semi-flat rim. It grips less and lets you move between registers more freely, but gives less support on long sessions.
