01Is the Schilke 18 too big for a college player?
At .690 inch it is a large diameter, but the rim's inward high point makes it feel smaller. Players with a settled embouchure handle it; those still building strength usually should not.
02What is the difference between the 18 and the 18C3D?
Same .690 cup diameter and 26 throat. The 18C3D adds a larger d-backbore, which produces a bigger, more teutonic tone.
03What does the 26 throat mean?
It is the throat drill size, standard across most of this Schilke line. The shallow A-cup models like the 15A4a use a 27 instead.
04Does the gold finish change how it plays?
The cup, rim contour, throat and backbore are the same as the model 18 in any finish. The finish changes the surface against your lips, not the dimensions.
