01How does the 9 compare to the 11 or 12?
It is slightly smaller: 16.33mm against 16.53mm for the 11 and 16.69mm for the 12. All three share the 26 throat, so the difference is rim size.
02Is this a good student mouthpiece?
It works, though Schilke points developing players toward the 13 for its rounder rim and quicker response. The 9 is a fine general-purpose piece.
03Can I use it for lead playing?
It has a standard cup, not a shallow A cup. For high-register lead work the 13A4a or 6A4a are built for that job.
04Will it fit my cornet?
No. Cornets take a different shank. Schilke's cornet-oriented pieces like the 11E and 8mmE2 are separate models.
