Strong match

Who this is for

  • Cornet players wanting a single do-everything size
  • Players who prefer free-blowing response over added resistance
  • Moving off a stock mouthpiece to a known reference size

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Players chasing a shallow cup for high-register work
  • Trumpet receivers — this is a cornet shank
  • Anyone still experimenting; the plating premium is steep

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

.674-inch (17.12 mm) cup diameter

At the small end of the Standard Series range. A compact rim helps control and centring before it helps raw volume.

Detail 02

26 throat

The common Schilke cornet throat. Blowing resistance sits in the middle — not tight, not wide open.

Detail 03

Standard rim, not a number 4

Rounder than the 15C4's semi-flat rim. More flexibility between registers, less lip support over a long set.

Detail 04

Cornet shank

Cornet receivers are shorter and narrower than trumpet. This will not seat correctly in a trumpet.

Detail 05

Gold plating

Finish only. Cup, rim and throat match the standard 15, so the playing dimensions are unchanged.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Cornet only — a trumpet receiver will not take this shank
  2. 02Sold on its own; no pouch, brush or case included
  3. 03If endurance is the issue, the 15C4 is the same diameter with a semi-flat rim

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Will this fit a trumpet?

No. It's a cornet mouthpiece and the shank is shorter and narrower than a trumpet receiver takes. Buy a trumpet model instead.

02How does the 15 compare to the 16?

The 16 is slightly wider at .677 inch versus .674, and blows fuller. The 15 is the tighter, more controlled of the two, with the same 26 throat.

03Is the 15 a good first upgrade?

It works as a general-purpose size with clear, free-blowing response. The gold plating pushes the price well past what a first mouthpiece needs to cost.

04What does a 26 throat mean?

It's the drill size of the hole below the cup, and it sets how much resistance you feel. 26 is Schilke's standard for cornet — middle of the road.
