01What is the difference between the 14A4, 14A4a, and 14A4x?
Same .673 inch cup and 27 throat. The 14A4a has the tight a-backbore for resistance and range, the 14A4 a standard c-backbore for a more open feel, and the 14A4x the largest, freest backbore.
02Will this fit my trumpet?
No. It is a cornet mouthpiece. The x-backbore is also used on piccolo trumpet, where it improves ease of playing and opens the sound.
03Which Schilke cornet mouthpiece gives a rounder, darker tone?
Look at the funnel cups instead — the 11E has a large funnel cup for a big round tone, and the 8E2 a deep funnel cup that stays flexible in all registers.
04Is a shallow cup only for lead playing?
