01Will the 53 fit a small-bore trombone?
No. This is a large-shank mouthpiece, so it needs a large-bore receiver. Small-bore tenors take a small-shank piece.
02Is the 53 too big for a student?
Most likely. Schilke's 46 is the model built around beginners, and the 47 is the student-and-professional size. The 53 is a large tenor cup.
03Can I use this on bass trombone?
It is a tenor size. For tenor and bass doubling, the 57 and 58 are the models cut for that, and the 59 and 60 are full-time bass sizes.
04How does the 53 differ from the 52?
The 52 is 1.015 inch with a 17/64 throat and a slightly broader sound than the 51. The 53 is wider at 1.033 inch with a tighter 15/64 throat.
