01What's the difference between the 51 and the 51C4?
Same 1.010 inch diameter and bowl cup. The 51C4 is slightly shallower and uses the wider semi-flat number 4 rim, so it responds a little quicker and sits more comfortably.
02Is this suitable for bass trombone?
It's a tenor size. Bass trombonists usually want the 58, 59, or 60, which run from 1.090 up to 1.143 inch with much larger throats.
03Will the J throat make my horn harder to play?
It offers less resistance, so it takes more air to fill. Players coming from a tighter 15/64 or 17/64 throat often need time to adjust their air.
04How does it compare to the 51D?
The 51D has a very large D cup for a full dark tone, favored on euphonium and by strong players. The 51C4 is shallower with the wider number 4 rim.
