What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Strength 2.5

Softer end of the working range on bari. Easy low-register response, less back-pressure when pushing volume.

Detail 02

Double cut

A second cut across the base of the vamp. Tends to break in faster and feel more flexible under the lip.

Detail 03

Box of 10

Enough to build a real rotation. Cane lasts far longer when each reed rests days between plays.

Detail 04

Cane

Natural material, so a box grades out — a few excellent, most usable, one or two duds. That is normal.

Detail 05

Baritone sax cut

The largest common sax reed. It will not seat on a tenor or alto mouthpiece.

Detail 06

$52.99 for ten

About $5.30 per reed, cheaper per piece than buying three- or five-packs of the same reed.

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Will these fit a tenor sax?

No. Baritone reeds are noticeably wider and longer. They will overhang a tenor mouthpiece and will not seal.

02Is 2.5 too soft for baritone sax?

It is on the easy side. Good for students and for comfort over long sessions; players pushing volume in a loud section often prefer 3.0.

03What does a double cut mean?

There is an extra cut at the base of the vamp. It generally makes the reed feel more flexible and play in sooner than an unfiled cut.

04How many reeds should I rotate?

Four or five in regular rotation is common. Ten gives you that plus replacements as the older ones die out.
