An 8-inch drum. Drum heads are sized by shell diameter. Measure across the top of the shell with the hoop and old head removed.

The top. It is a batter head, meant to be struck. Resonant heads for the underside are built differently and sold separately.
03Will it still ring?
Less than a plain single-ply head. The built-in edge ring cuts overtones and shortens sustain, so you get more note and less wash.
