Strong match

Who this is for

  • Snare backbeats that need to cut without a long ring
  • Studio and miked situations where overtones get in the way
  • Drummers who tape their heads and want to stop

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Players who want an open, ringing, wide-open snare voice
  • Jazz and light brush work needing maximum sensitivity
  • Anyone needing a 13" or 12" head — this is 14" only

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Powerstroke 3 design

An underlay ring at the edge damps outer overtones, so you get attack without the long decay.

Detail 02

Center dot

The dot adds mass and durability where the stick lands, focusing the tone and slowing wear.

Detail 03

Coated surface

Warms and slightly dries the tone versus clear, and makes brush work possible.

Detail 04

14 in.

Fits a 14" snare drum. Head size is the drum's diameter, not the rim's outer edge.

Detail 05

Batter head

This is the top head you strike. Resonant bottom head is a separate purchase.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Measure your snare shell diameter — 14" heads do not fit 13" drums
  2. 02Only one head is included; bottom snare-side head is sold separately
  3. 03You need a drum key to tension it evenly after seating

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Is this the top or bottom head?

Top. It is a batter head, the one you strike. The thin snare-side head on the bottom is a different, much thinner head and is sold separately.

02Will this quiet my ringy snare?

It reduces overtones and shortens sustain considerably compared to a plain single-ply head. It focuses the sound rather than deadening it — you keep the crack, lose most of the ring.

03Can I use brushes on it?

Yes. The coating gives brushes the texture they need. The center dot is smoother, so sweeps over the middle feel different than over the outer area.

04Does it work on a tom?

It will fit any 14" drum, including a 14" floor tom, and will damp it the same way. Most drummers use this design on snare.
