Strong match

Who this is for

  • Replacing a worn head on one drum of a 12-inch marching tenor
  • Marching lines wanting focused attack without long ring
  • Outdoor playing where extra ply thickness adds durability

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Drums using crimped hoops rather than Crimplock mounting
  • Players chasing maximum open sustain and overtones
  • Concert toms or drum kit toms, which use standard hoop heads

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Crimplock

Remo's marching mounting system. The head sits in a molded collar that locks into a matching Crimplock drum hoop.

Detail 02

Pinstripe

Two plies of film with a damping agent between the outer edges. Cuts overtones and shortens sustain without external muffling.

Detail 03

Clear film

Brighter and more open than a coated head of the same build. More attack, more stick definition.

Detail 04

12 inch

One drum of a tenor set. A full set of tenors needs several different sizes, sold separately.

Detail 05

Two-ply construction

More mass means it dents less and holds tuning longer under heavy playing than a single-ply head.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Confirm your tenors are Crimplock, not crimped — the mounting systems do not interchange
  2. 02One 12-inch head only. Other drums in the set need their own sizes
  3. 03Two-ply heads take longer to settle after mounting; retune after the first session

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Does this cover my whole tenor set?

No. This is a single 12-inch head. Marching tenors use several drums of different diameters, so you need a separate head for each size.

02What is the difference between Crimplock and crimped?

Crimplock uses a molded plastic collar that locks into the drum's hoop assembly. Crimped uses an aluminum channel around the head. They are not interchangeable.

03How does Pinstripe compare to a single-ply head?

It has more attack focus and noticeably less ring. The second ply with edge damping cuts overtones, so you get a shorter, tighter note.

04Will this work on a regular tom?

No. Standard toms use flat-flange heads that seat on the bearing edge under a metal hoop. Crimplock heads need Crimplock hardware.
