Strong match

Who this is for

  • Marching snare players wanting a darker, less bright attack
  • Replacing a worn head on a 14-inch crimped-hoop marching snare
  • Outdoor field use where a heavy, high-tension head is needed

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Kit drummers — marching heads are far thicker and tighter
  • Crimplock-mounted marching snares, which need a different hoop system
  • Anyone wanting a warm, resonant studio snare sound

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Crimped hoop

The head is locked into an aluminum channel. It must match a crimped-collar drum; it will not fit Crimplock hardware.

Detail 02

14 inch

This is the head diameter, measured across the shell, not across the rim. A 14-inch drum takes a 14-inch head.

Detail 03

Black film

Darker, drier attack than a clear head, with less high-end ring. Also hides stick marks better.

Detail 04

Marching snare head

Built for very high tension. It will feel stiff and unforgiving on a standard drum kit snare.

Detail 05

Batter head

This is the top head you strike. It does not replace the bottom snare-side head.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Check whether your drum uses crimped or Crimplock hoops — they are not interchangeable
  2. 02One head only. No snare-side head, tuning key, or hardware included
  3. 03Detension the old head evenly before removal to avoid warping the hoop

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Will this fit my Crimplock marching snare?

No. This is the crimped version. Crimplock drums use a plastic collar that snaps into the drum's own hoop system, and the two mounting styles are not compatible.

02Can I use this on a regular drum set snare?

It will physically sit on a 14-inch snare, but marching heads are built for extreme tension. On a kit it feels stiff and sounds choked at normal tuning.

03Does black film change the sound?

Yes. The coating adds mass and damping, so you get a drier, darker attack with less overtone ring than a clear head.

04Is this the top or bottom head?

Top. This is the batter head you play on. The snare-side head underneath is a separate, much thinner head.
