Strong match

Who this is for

  • Restoring snare wire response on a dull-sounding 14" snare
  • Drummers who want a tougher bottom head than a thin single-ply
  • Replacing a bottom head that has split near the wire beds

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Anyone needing a batter head — this goes on the bottom
  • Snares of any size other than 14 inches
  • Players wanting maximum wire sensitivity from a very thin head

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Snare side (resonant) head

Mounts on the bottom, under the wires. It is not built to be struck with sticks.

Detail 02

Hazy finish

Slightly frosted rather than clear. Warms the wire response and takes a little edge off the ring.

Detail 03

Emperor series

Emperor is Remo's heavier construction, so it trades a bit of sensitivity for durability and a fatter sound.

Detail 04

14 in. size

Head size must match your drum's shell diameter exactly. A 14" snare takes a 14" head, no tolerance.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Measure the shell diameter, not the old head's rim, before ordering
  2. 02Head only — no snare wires, tension rods, or hoop included
  3. 03You will need a drum key to detension and retension the drum

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Does this go on the top or bottom of the snare?

The bottom. Snare-side heads sit under the snare wires and are tuned tighter than the batter head. Striking one with sticks will destroy it quickly.

02Will this fit my 13" snare?

No. This is a 14 in. head and needs a 14" snare drum. Head diameter has to match the shell exactly.

03What is the difference between hazy and clear snare side?

Hazy has a frosted surface that slightly warms the tone and softens the wire attack. Clear is more open and cutting.

04How tight should I tune it?

Snare-side heads run considerably tighter than the batter head. Tune up in small, even turns across all lugs until the wire response tightens up.
