Independent shopping perspective
The Korena take
Pork Pie’s USA Custom vented snare pairs a 14 × 6-inch, 8-ply maple shell with eight air vents for a more controlled backbeat. The vents release air in a way that reduces excess ring, giving the drum a tighter, more cutting response for live and studio placement. Its hourglass lugs, Pork Pie throw-off and butt plate, 2.3mm triple-flange hoops, Pork Pie wires, and Remo Ambassador heads complete a focused working snare. The ebony veneer, black stain, and satin coating give it a restrained Raven Black finish.
Strong match
Who this is for
- Studio tracking where reduced ring and a controlled, punchy snare voice are useful.
- Live mixes that need a tighter backbeat with cutting rimshot response.
- Drummers using ghost notes and rimshots as part of an articulate snare part.
Consider the trade-offs
When to look elsewhere
- Players seeking an open, ringing snare character; the eight vents are designed to reduce excess ring.
- Players looking for a snare in a size other than 14 × 6 inches.
