The Korena take

The script-logo Phase 90 reissue with an LED. A one-knob phaser for players who want the classic swirl and nothing to configure.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • Funk rhythm parts where the phase sweep moves with your picking
  • Players who want one knob and no menu diving
  • Adding motion to clean or lightly driven tones

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Anyone needing depth, feedback or tap-tempo control
  • Players wanting a modern multi-mode modulation station
  • Tight budgets — the standard Phase 90 costs less

MXR Custom Shop CSP-101CL Script Logo Phase 90 With LED Guitar Effects Pedal construction detail

Detail 01

Script logo circuit

The earlier voicing: subtler, less volume push through the sweep than the block-logo version. Sits under the guitar tone rather than on top.

Detail 02

One Speed knob

Rate is your only control. Depth and mix are fixed, so every setting is usable and dialing in takes seconds.

Detail 03

LED added

The original script version had no status light. You can see on/off state on a dark stage.

Detail 04

Custom Shop build

MXR's small-run line, which is why it costs more than the standard-production Phase 90.

Detail 05

Touch responsive

The effect tracks your attack, so dynamics in your right hand still come through instead of being flattened.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Runs on 9V — budget for a power supply if you don't have a spare output
  2. 02One knob means no way to reduce depth if the sweep feels too strong
  3. 03Phasers usually sit before overdrive; try both positions in your chain

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01What's the difference between script and block logo Phase 90?

Script is the earlier, more subtle voicing with less midrange volume bump as the sweep moves. Block logo is more pronounced and cuts harder. Script blends into a mix more easily.

02Does it have true bypass?

Set it up so you can A/B it against bypassed signal in your own rig and judge the tone change yourself.

03Where should it go in my signal chain?

Most players put a phaser early, before drive pedals, for a thicker sweep. After drive gives a cleaner, more separated swirl. Both are valid.

04Is a phaser the same as a flanger or chorus?

No. Phaser sweeps notches through the signal for a hollow swirl. Flanger is more metallic and jet-like. Chorus thickens by detuning a copy of the signal.
