The deep shell design delivers a commanding voice with substantial body and authority, while SONIClear bearing edges and Sonic Saver hoops help maximize resonance and consistency. Finished in Gun Metal Grey lacquer with brushed black hardware and adorned with Aquiles' iconic PsychOctopus badge, this Mapex signature snare pairs striking aesthetics with the powerful sound required for demanding live performances and studio sessions alike. Hybrid Shell Design Delivers Commanding Presence Forming the nucleus of the PsychOctopus is an 11-ply hybrid shell that combines the balanced articulation of maple with the dense projection and low-frequency authority of padauk. Measuring a substantial 14x8", the shell is designed to produce a thunderous attack, extended body and impressive volume that remain focused even in dense musical arrangements. Whether driving complex progressive metal passages, powerful rock grooves or hard-hitting live performances, the shell's construction helps every note maintain clarity and definition while projecting effortlessly through the mix. Engineered for Power and Dynamic Response Beyond its shell construction, the PsychOctopus incorporates several performance-focused design elements that enhance both feel and sound. Four quadrant air vents allow the drum to move air more efficiently, increasing responsiveness and helping each stroke speak with authority. SONIClear bearing edges promote optimal head seating and shell resonance, while Sonic Saver hoops provide a comfortable playing feel and reliable durability. Together, these features create a snare that responds confidently to everything from subtle ghost notes to explosive rimshots, offering a wide dynamic range without sacrificing projection. Built to the Demands of Aquiles Priester's Playing Style Known worldwide for his work with Angra, Hangar, DragonForce, W.A.S.P. and numerous international recording and touring projects, Aquiles Priester has earned a reputation as one of progressive metal's most technically accomplished and physically demanding drummers. His playing is defined by remarkable precision, relentless endurance and the ability to execute complex rhythmic ideas with unwavering consistency. The PsychOctopus symbol has long represented that distinctive approach to drumming, and this signature model was created to reflect those same qualities. Outfitted to Aquiles' specifications with Evans HD Dry batter and Evans 300 snare-side heads along with Puresound S1430 snare wires, the Mapex Artist Collection PsychOctopus Aquiles Priester snare delivers the power, projection and articulation required for modern drumming at the highest level.
