The 4 in. blows a bit more freely with less back pressure. The 5 in. is longer and gives a fuller, darker muted sound. Both are straight mutes for trumpet.
02Does a shorter mute change the pitch differently?
All straight mutes push pitch sharp. Length affects blowing resistance and tone color more than it changes how much you need to compensate.
03How do I keep it from falling out?
The corks must grip the bell. If it slips, the corks are compressed or worn. Replacement cork strips are a standard repair.
04Can I use this on a cornet?
No. Cornet bells take differently sized mutes. This is cut for trumpet.
